About

Karigar Embroideries was founded by Mala Barua in 2007 in New Delhi, India. Born and brought up in India, Mala, had been exposed to the traditional crafts from a very young age and doing embroideries was part of her growing up. After completing her graduation in India she went to live in London, Hong Kong and Singapore and imbibed the distinctive cultures of the different countries. When she returned to India after a long twenty years abroad, it didn't take her long to weave the magic of traditional Indian craftsmanship into Western fashion requirements by working hands on with the 'karigars' (skilled workers).

Karigar Embroideries Design Studio is equipped to handle all of your design requirements with expertise in loom work, machine embroidery, screen and block printing and hand painting. The studio also specializes in interpreting artwork that requires translation into embroideries. Production of embroidery can be executed against a formal production order.

Karigar recently had the privilege of being the first Indian design studio to show at the Indigo Salon in September 2008.
